Beschreibung der Arbeit

Art der Arbeit
Thema der Promotion Novel neurobiological treatment for anxiety disorders using real-time neurofeedback
Voraussichtliche Dauer (in Monaten) 15-18
davon in Vollzeit (in Monaten) 18
Startzeitpunkt as of now
Methoden

The candidate integrates in-vivo electrophysiological recordings with different stimulation techniques aiming to target pathophysiological plasticity towards a novel neurofeedback-based treatment approach for psychiatric disorders like anxiety disorders or PTSD. Methods used: #In-vivo electrophysiological recordings #2MDR stimulation #Fear conditioning #Stereotaxic surgery #Viral injection #Optogenetics #Videotracking

Zielsetzung

Psychiatric disorders severly impact the quality of life for patients, yet most treatment strategies still remain indirect. Different stimulation techniques such as vagal nerve or bilateral stimulation showed to affect neuroplasticity and represent promising trajectories for treatment development. Our goal is to develop a neurofeedback-based treatment approach that integrates the detection of neuronal activity with closed-loop stimulation. We will test the feasibility in a PTSD mouse model.

Rahmenbedingungen

Strukturierte Betreuung

The applicant participates in weekly group seminars and journal clubs. SFB 1158 supports scientific exchange of young scientists in retreats, congresses, summer schools. We are well interconnected within the SFB and also within other working groups.

Anforderungen

An animal course is mandatory and can be acquired via our group. All technical knowledge can be acquired in our lab.

Finanzielle Unterstützung

We support and recommend to apply for a fellowship. We aim to support the applicant with a HIWI salary.

Autorenschaft

Our goal is to publish in high-rank journals. First authorships are possible, but depend on the contribution and commitment of the applicant, of course.

Anmerkungen

The candidate will work in a collaboration with the Pasteur Institute Paris, the Institute for Neurophysiology and SFB1158. The project and my group is embedded in an internationally leading pain research consortium SFB1158: https://www.sfb1158.de/ Further information about my group: https://www.medizinische-fakultaet-hd.uni-heidelberg.de/einrichtungen/institute/anatomie-und-zellbiologie/abteilungen/funktionelle-neuroanatomie/ag-wieland
