| Methoden | The role of the immune system and of the inflammatory response are particularly important in pancreatic cancer development and progression. A systematic review on the role of cytokines showed increased risks for PDAC for a selection of markers. With advances in multiplex technologies, multimarker panels on proteins are developed, such as by OLINK, offering the chance to measure multiple biomarkers in minute µl of blood. We will conduct a nested case-control study measuring 92 proteins in 421 cases and 421 matched controls, using the OLINK immuno-oncology panel in stored baseline serum samples. Study source is the 520,000 participants encompassing prospective European EPIC cohort. Conditional logistic regression will be used to estimate adjusted Odds Ratios for risk of pancreatic cancer by protein levels. Results will be comprehensivly discussed by reviewing the literature. |
| Zielsetzung | Independent epidemiological research in a large cohort with support of scientists with expertise in epidemiological research, immune system, pancreatic cancer etc. Weekly suppervision by Dr. Katzke. Publication of results in a peer review journal is obligatory. No clinical activities but support of our lung cancer screening study 4-IN-THE-LUNG-RUN team by conducting informed consent interviews with study participants, including blood draw and collection of exhaled breath condensate. 1-2x per week. |
